FishEye Lenses – Two Models EF Canon FishEye Lenses

Fisheye Lens Introduction

Fisheye lens is basically an ultra-wide-angle lens which can create strong visual distortion, it enable to photograph wide panoramic or  hemispherical image with extremely wide angles of view. Theoretically, Fisheye lens produces images with  straight line of perspective which is meaning you can get images “non-rectilinear” appearance.

In 1906 the term Fisheye was named by Robert W. Wood (American physicist) based on the fisheye’s field of view from beneath the water (it’s also known as Snell’s window). In the 1920s, the first practical of fisheye lens was use in meteorology to observation cloud formation, its name is “whole-sky lenses”. And in the early 1960s, Mass-produced fisheye lenses for photography appeared. They are generally used for their unique, distorted appearance.

For the popular 35 mm film format, 8mm – 10mm focal length fisheye lenses are used for circular images, and 15-16 mm for full-frame images. See circular image and full-frame image below.
